EQ Resources Drives Tungsten Redevelopment in QLD with Innovative Trials

EQ Resources (EQR) has secured $250,000 from Queensland’s METS (mining equipment, technology, and services) collaborative project fund, intended to trial innovative X-ray transmission (XRT) ore sorting technology. The project focuses on the potential redevelopment of Wolfram Camp, a historic tungsten mine in Queensland, and aligns with the state’s critical minerals strategy.

Advanced Ore Sorting Technology for Future DevelopmentWith this funding, EQR will trial advanced XRT ore sorting technology to determine the feasibility of redeveloping Wolfram Camp. The site is located approximately 100 km southwest of EQR’s Mt Carbine tungsten mine. Tomra Sorting, known for its advanced ore sorting solutions, will supply the equipment. Their expertise from projects like the Barruecopardo mine in Spain and Mt Carbine mine in Queensland will be invaluable.

The University of Queensland’s Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI) will also contribute by providing geometallurgical analysis of the tungsten and molybdenum deposits, ensuring that the sorting process maximises efficiency.

Supporting Queensland’s Mining GoalsEQR’s CEO, Kevin MacNeill, noted that the grant is a significant step in the company’s strategy for building a tungsten cluster in Queensland. He emphasised that advanced ore sorting technology, combined with geometallurgical techniques, could breathe new life into the historic Wolfram Camp mine, aligning with Queensland’s critical minerals strategy.

MacNeill further highlighted the potential economic benefits of the project, which could lead to full-scale redevelopment if successful. This would bolster EQR’s efforts to support Queensland’s mining sector while promoting innovation in mining technology.
