First Look: Hamilton teams up with Engineered Garments, Presenting a 36mm Khaki Field Titanium

Oct 17, 2024

Hamilton is well known for its American military-inspired Khaki Field watches, which are among the best values in the business. Titanium variants are nothing new to the expansive series, but a collaboration with New York design house Engineered Garments brings a small(ish), all-titanium automatic that’s stripped to the essentials. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel or really break the mould, but the result is a slick, traditionally-sized field watch that’s ultra-lightweight and complementary to the Khaki Field portfolio. It’s limited to 1,999 pieces, which is the date of Engineered Garments’ founding.

Engineered Garments was started by Japanese designer Daiki Suzuki (not the motorcycle brand), who blends American and Japanese influences in a wide range of garments. His approach with Hamilton was simplicity and authenticity, starting with a titanium case at only 36mm in diameter and 10.8mm in height. Lightweight, discreet and close to the original mid-century field watches. Of course, it’s 2024 and modern requisites like an anti-reflective sapphire crystal and 100 metres of water resistance are present, along with a partial (half-cut) exhibition case back. The 18mm, three-link bracelet is matching titanium with a folding buckle and three micro-adjustments.

The dial of the Hamilton x Engineered Garments Khaki Field Titanium 36mm is black with oversized white Arabic numerals for maximum legibility, while matte black hour and minute hands have large white Super-LumiNova inserts. The black seconds hand also has a lume tip. A detailed minute/seconds track spans the outermost perimeter, but dial print is otherwise fairly limited. It’s a time-only piece and not a significant departure aesthetically from other models in the series, but it does have a unique vibe.

Powering this 36mm Khaki Field Titanium is Hamilton’s H-10 automatic, based on the Powermatic 80 from a modified ETA 2824. It has 25 jewels, beats at 21,600vph (3Hz) and features a sizeable 80-hour power reserve. Functions are limited to central hours, minutes and hacking seconds, and the movement is available with or without a date complication, so it’s not hidden here.

The Hamilton x Engineered Garments Khaki Field Titanium 36mm Limited Edition is limited to 1,999 pieces, so there’s a reasonable amount for enthusiasts. It retails for CHF 1,080, EUR 1,225 or USD 1,145. For more information, please visit Hamilton’s website or Engineered Garments’ website.
